The iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max are two large 2024 iPhones with very different feature priorities. Both have generous screens, but the Plus uses A18 and standard display/camera hardware, while the Pro Max uses A18 Pro, adaptive 120Hz ProMotion and a more versatile Pro camera system. A larger screen does not automatically mean a Pro experience
The 16 Plus screen is 6.7 inches, while the Pro Max reaches 6.9 inches and supports ProMotion up to 120Hz. The smoothness improvement is most relevant to scrolling, animations and supported content; panel size determines reading space. Someone primarily watching streams or using maps may find the Plus more than adequate even without ProMotion.
A18 versus A18 Pro and camera hardware
A18 Pro provides the Pro Max's higher-tier processing capabilities, and its camera system includes a dedicated 5x telephoto lens. That matters for distant subjects or specific professional recording workflows. The Plus has a 48MP Main and Ultra Wide setup and should not be marketed as having the same optical telephoto system.
