Who Are the Characters and Creatures in the Backrooms?
Meet the people and creatures associated with Backrooms lore, found-footage videos, and the 2026 movie—without mixing their canons.
Who Are the Characters and Creatures in the Backrooms?
A question about Backrooms characters needs one clarification before any list: which Backrooms? Community fiction, Kane Pixels' found-footage videos, the 2026 film, and video games all portray different people or creatures. There is no single cast that spans every interpretation without contradiction.
People and entities do different jobs
A character is not always a monster. Human explorers, researchers, and narrators give the audience someone to follow, while supernatural or unexplained entities supply danger and mystery. Many community-wiki stories are written as in-universe reports, so an alleged witness may be as important as a creature.
The ambiguity is intentional. A report can describe something frightening without ever proving what it was. Treating every mention as a fully documented species flattens one of the setting's best narrative tricks.
Who appears in community-written versions?
Fan wikis contain an evolving collection of entities and local stories. Some names are widely recognizable, but their behaviors can change between revisions or separate community projects. A list copied from one wiki may be misleading if presented as the definitive roster of the entire Backrooms universe.
Read the individual page for the continuity being discussed. Note the name, the location, and whether the description is written as a fictional firsthand account. Distinguishing a story's own claims from editorial facts makes an entity guide far more useful than an unexplained monster ranking.
What about Kane Pixels' creatures?
The found-footage series uses its own visual and narrative approach. One of its most discussed creatures is commonly called the Bacteria by fans. Its shape and presence are better understood in the context of those videos than by assigning it a set of rules drawn from unrelated fan wikis.
The series also features the institutional framing of investigations into strange spaces. The researchers and recordings matter because they make the setting feel observed while leaving major questions unanswered.
Characters in the A24 film
The 2026 film tells a separate screen story involving people who encounter the impossible space. A24 credits include Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell. The film's Still Lifes belong in a film-specific discussion rather than being casually renamed as the Bacteria creature.
A useful way to compare versions
When researching a name, record its medium, source, role, and whether the claim is confirmed on screen or merely a fan interpretation. That four-part check prevents the most common error: presenting a game enemy, a wiki entity, and a movie creature as though they were the same person.
Frequently asked questions
Are all Backrooms monsters part of the same story?
No. An entity invented for one fan wiki may never appear in Kane Pixels videos or the A24 film. Always identify the source continuity before assigning a creature its traits.
Is the Bacteria a human character?
It is discussed primarily as an entity in found-footage material. Its fan nickname does not prove a complete biological explanation or identity.
